Leadership

Of all the different types of nursing leadership roles I have learned about in nursing, being a preceptor is a role I can see myself taking in the future. I recognize the significant impact a preceptor can have on a new graduate nurses transition into practice. My goal would be to support the new graduate nurse in the professional environment that will enhance communication skills, professional development, and clinical knowledge.
A few ways things that I would have the new RN focus on are perfecting clinical skills by allowing them to practice and become comfortable and proficient in practice and simulations. We would also focus on communication skills and ways the new nurse graduate can grow in their practice by participating in continuing education credits both in person and online where available.
I would be committed to providing a comfortable and supportive learning environment as a preceptor and plan to engage in the proper training for new nursing students whom I can sympathize with. Becoming a preceptor would also enhance my own skills as a future leader in nursing.
