Collaborating

At the beginning of the UF baccaularete program, one of the first assignments we had was to work as a group of 3 and create an evidenced-based poster on a clinical topic. We were expected to come up with a team name and agree on a topic for the poster that we would all contribute to equally.
Initially there was some apprehension around the fact that we all live in different cities and have different schedules and lifestyles. I felt it would be difficult to discuss ideas or make changes or suggestions if we weren't all in active communication. After exchanging phone numbers, we found the best way to communicate would be through WhatsApp, and there we discussed schedules, expectations, and deadlines. If one of us needed advice or help with their portion of work, it was always given and in a timely manner. Overall I was lucky to have like-minded partners with similar work ethic. We called ourselves the Gator Nurse  Trio.
Although we may have had some delays or hiccups in communication, we collectively expressed our initial feelings of doubt at the start of the project and ended the conversation with how grateful we were to work together.
All nurses are expected to collaborate with other specialties and teams both face to face, over the phone, or virtually. Projects such as these help to develop the skills such as adaptability, communication, and conflict resolution which are all essential in the healthcare setting. These projects also reinforce the importance of evidence-based practice and research skills that can be applied to patient care plans. I look forward to applying these things into my nursing career.
